My name is Rhys Hibbert and I am a 19 year old Premier League fan who lives in Sydney.

Last year I started a charity called Donate for Life (www.donatefor.life), where I encourage people to donate blood products at Lifeblood to help cancer patients. I am passionate about this cause as when I was 18 months old I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, a blood cancer. Blood donations are fundamental to cancer treatment and it is the biggest use of donated blood. Without around 25 blood transfusions I would not be here today.

One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime.

Over the past few months I have worked with Liverpool FC NSW Supporter’s Club to create their Lifeblood Team and to promote donating blood to their members. Over the past few months Liverpool FC NSW supporters have donated 10 times and saved 30 lives.

Next season I am establishing the “Donate For Life Premier Blood Donation League.” This is a competition between Premier League supporter’s clubs in Australia to donate the most blood, plasma, and platelets over the course of one season. At the end of the season I will send a trophy to the supporter’s club which donated the most over the entire season. I hope a bit of competition will inspire members to give to the community in a non-monetary way and boost community spirit!
